Rather than give up the goods, the cleric enticed the bandits with stories of gold for the taking. The bandits agreed, since pickings were slim; the cleric was pleased, knowing that he'd need extra fodder for the foray into the temple.<br /><br />The cleric found the temple and a few riches, but the object of his quest (some magic item) still eludes him. Whether the Bandits are as devout as the Cleric, or are just using him (or is he using them?)is a question who's answer the players may need to find out. <br /><br />Or they might just wade in and try to kill all the bandits at the start. questions later and all that.
